Frequently Asked Questions

What is in Crystal Mud? Is it natural?

Crystal Mud is made of a complex polymer called sodium polyacrylate. It's a powder that absorbs water, each tiny particle growing into a gel-like ball. The fragrances are all natural, and vary from plant essences to milk powder.
The dissolver is a combination of salts.

Who can use it?

Anyone can use it. We'd recommend supervising young children, as it won't do their tummies any good if they eat it! As it does not contain essential oils it is perfectly safe for mums-to-be, and anyone else who has had adverse reactions to essential oils.

What health benefits does it have?

A soak in Crystal Mud will primarily relax you because of the warmth. As the heat enters your body and dissipates through the muscles it will help them to relax, releasing any stored tension. The heat will also cause a slight increase in blood flow, allowing more oxygen to be brought to the muscles, and more toxins to be carried away.
The density of the Crystal Mud will also help with this relaxing of the muscles, especially in the feet and hands, in the same way that water therapy works to relax the body. As the Crystal Mud is a much thicker solution that plain water, the effect of soaking is greater than a water soak.
Although no essential oils are used in the product, the natural scents within Crystal Mud can each promote different beneficial effects on the body, including inducing sleep, soothing, calming and rejuvenating. Read about the benefits of each fragrance.

Where can I buy it?

You can purchase Crystal Mud, and any of our gift packs, in the online shop. It is also becoming more widely stocked in beauty salons, contact us to find your nearest one. We have Pamper Party Organisers around the country who can also supply you with our products.

Will it stain my bath/carpets?

No. Crystal Mud contains only food grade colourings, so theres nothing to worry about! If you do spill some of the Crystal Mud, use a vacumm cleaner to remove the Crystals from carpets and soft furnishings. If any colour has been absorbed into the material, a small amount of the dissolver solution will help to lift it out, and then use a mild detergent.

Can I add my own oils to Crystal Mud?

Yes you can. If you wish to use essential oils you can add them to the Crystal Mud. We recommend you add them into the water before adding the Crystal Mud Sachet, in order to disperse the oils more evenly. We advise that you use sparingly, as the heat of the mud will mean the oils are absorbed into your blood stream much quicker than when applied cold.
Applying essential oils to Crystal Mud is NOT necessary, and should not be done by anyone with little experience of Essential Oils and Aromatherapy.Crystal Mud Ltd will not be held responsible for any unexpected side effects due to the addition of any other product to the Crystal Mud.

I've used foot soaks before, why is Crystal Mud any different?

A standard foot soak in warm water (even with a product added) will benefit your feet in 2 ways: the heat, and the density. As Crystal Mud holds heat for up to 3 times longer than water, and is a thicker solution, both of these effects are maximised by using Crystal Mud as opposed to any other foot soak. Some foot soaks will have their own properties, maybe an essential oil or other additional ingredients, and you may find them beneficial to you. But at Crystal Mud we've decided not to add lots of chemical ingredients to the our foot soak, keeping it as simple and as natural as possible.

I've seen a similar product abroad, was it Crystal Mud?

Yes it probably was! Crystal Mud is already a huge success in America, Australia, New Zealand and Singapore, and becoming available in many other countries.

Is Crystal Mud tested on animals?

Neither Crystal Mud, nor any of it's ingredients, have been tested on animals at any stage in the development of the product.
